Build a life, don't just live one

The world may say you have to follow a certain formula before you can become successful. That you have turn 40 before the world will take you seriously. That you have to pay your dues and work your way up the ladder. Honestly, that's all bullshit.

Don't fall prey to the world around you.

My first corporate world full-time job I started right out of college I was the new kid on the block, and I was excited about what was ahead of me. I had a drive, a passion and I was ready to take in all that I could. I had been there three months and after seeking advice and asking questions (after all, isn't that how you learn by asking questions? just so we're on the same page) I was told by a superior co-worker that I was too eager to learn and needed to slow down.

Huh?? Excuse me? In what world does that even make sense? I couldn't understand where the hell he was coming from. What kind of mindset do you have to have to tell someone that? My jaw dropped. I was speechless, and I had no comeback. How is being eager to learn a bad thing? I didn't get it.

After wiping away a few tears, I picked myself up and chalked it up to him just being jealous. Oh what, I didn't know. But it made sense at the time.

Bottom line, some people can be down right assholes. And it's up to you to block out those assholes, grow a thicker skin, forget about them and move on. Those are the people you don't need or want in your life. It's up to you to build a life you want to live in. Build a life that you can look back on and be proud of.

Don't let the noise of other people's opinions drown out your own dreams! Believe and think for yourself. And I promise you, your heart will never lie to you.

Opportunity looks a lot like hard work. And hard work always pays off in the end.

Opportunity + Preparation = Success! Remember that. :)

Happy Thursday, friends!

  1. yup jealous that they weren't as driven as you at that age or jealous that you have that passion and maybe they lost it. it is hard to not allow people to get you down but their words can't hold a flame if you don't let them. p.s. i hope that made sense :-)

  2. "Too eager to learn".... psssh!! That is impossible. People say the darndest things when they feel threatened. You hit the nail on the head when you said to believe and think for yourself. People are always going to have an opinion, so it makes all the sense in the world to learn how not to let those opinions bother you. :)
