Diary of a Submissive - Book Review

This month's BlogHer Book Club book is a real life Fifty Shades of Grey. I wasn't sure, at first, how I was going to like this book. I attempted to read Fifty Shades of Grey, but I just couldn't get in to the whole Dominate/submissive relationship concept. I mean after all, how many times can he spank her? And maybe it was the trivial mindset of a young college girl or that the grammar was a little annoying?

Well, Diary of a Submissive is different compared to Fifty Shades of Grey, and ten times better in my opinion. So, if you loved the trilogy, then this book should be next on your list. Sophie Morgan's memoir is sophisticated, exciting, entertaining, sometimes disturbing and all the while, intriguing. I laughed with her, cried with her, got embarrassed for her, and wanted to stand up for her when she was demeaned. This book sucked me in within the first couple of paragraphs of the prologue, and each story after kept me turning pages until I was reading late into the night.

This story may be a personal sexual awakening, but Sophie's journey gives the reader insight into an independent woman who learns to be honest with herself and finding out what truly makes her happy.

This was a paid review for BlogHer Book Club, but the opinions expressed herein are my own.

  2. I haven't read any of the 50 shades of grey books...I think they'd make me too uncomfortable!

But after this review, perhaps I should be a bit more open minded :)
