DIY Succulent Boutonieres

Last week I met up with my best friend, Jessica, for a trip to Alfred Angelo and a quick bite to eat. I got my bridesmaid's dress ordered and can't wait until this dress comes in. You may have seen it here if you follow me on Instagram (@alisha_aWISHa). Seriously, this dress is a dress I WILL wear again after her wedding. :)

We talked about her wedding plans, her venue, her dress, her flowers, and so much more. Speaking of her dress, I can't explain how happy I am to be doing Jessica's bridal pictures later this year in October. Her dress is absolutely gorgeous. When we talked about her flowers, bouquets and boutonnières she mentioned using succulents for her boutonnieres and possibly her bouquet for her bridal pictures. I was in Heaven. Succulents are my kryptonite. Like, melt my heart into a million pieces. Not sure why. It must be a girl thing.

The next couple of days I couldn't stop thinking about ways to make her succulent boutonnieres. So I went to work immediately making a few samples for her, mixing and matching different species of plants but keeping the succulent as the focal point.

For these boutonnieres, I took a cutting of a succulent (you can use any kind really), and stuck a piece of floral wire through the stem and wrapped it around the stem to make the succulent a bit more sturdy. I then added other plant cuttings from plants from my local nursery. Pieces like, Cherry Barbados, Ixora (red and yellow), White Duranta and Camellia leaves. I also added a few passion vine branches to give the boutonnieres a rustic look.

What do you think of these? Would you have used them in your own wedding?
I promise they so much prettier in person.

Jess, you are going to knock 'em all dead in a few short months. Can't wait for your big day!
