Diary of a Mad Fat Girl - Book Review

This was a paid review for BlogHer Book Club, but the opinions expressed herein are my own.

Diary of a Mad Fat Girl is a fun, hilarious read. Ace Jones, the narrator and main character is pure fun and full of sarcasm.

She is a witty art teacher in the small town of Bugtussle, Mississippi, who lives with her best pal, chiweenie Buster Loo. She's suspicious of (read really pissed off at) her best friend Lily when she cancels on their annual trip to Florida at the last minute. Ace also knows the truth about her friend, Chloe's, incident that lands her in the hospital, and she knows she can get into big trouble if she doesn't keep her mouth shut.

"Graciela "Ace" Jones is a sassy high school teacher, known in her small town of Bugtussle, Mississippi, for an outsize presence and a mouth to match. But this time that big mouth might get her into big trouble…"

Stephanie McAfee gives her characters real-life charm, attitude and spontaneity. McAfee turns up the volume in a few heated scenes between Ace and her best friend's husband, Richard, at the hospital. McAfee makes you laugh out loud in a scene with Ace and Lily in a stake-out trying to catch a cheater. And McAfee makes your jaw drop in the last 10 sentences of the book with an it's-about-damn-time-you-asked-her question.

Diary of a Mad Fat Girl should definitely be your next book to read!
