Something I've realized...

I'm actually quite selfish.

Like all-I-think-about-is-myself-kind-of-attitude.

Maybe Christmas time brings out the worst in me?

Thursday my aunt and I did some Christmas shopping together. We got most of our shopping done which is always great when there's less than 6 days left till Christmas, but while we were shopping I couldn't help but think of myself and buying a few things for ME.

Movies, clothes, books, cds, I wanted it all.

The more names I crossed off my Christmas list I realized I was buying more things for myself than everyone else. My aunt couldn't help laughing at me as I would pick up something for my sister then myself, something for my cousin then myself, and something for my niece, and again, something for myself.

I had to keep telling myself that it's not about me, it's not about me.

Now, I've known that Christmas is about everyone else since I was a little kid, but something about our little shopping experience reminded me of the true meaning of Christmas. #wakeupcall

It's about seeing your niece's face light up because you gave her the cutest Strawberry Shortcake doll. It's about spending time with family that you only get to see once or twice a year. It's about making pancakes with your dad on Christmas morning. It's about all the hugs I'm going to get from everyone on Christmas day.

Christmas is about love, joy, peace, family, and Jesus.

I sincerely hope all of you have a wonderful Christmas this year. Be sure to tell everyone how much they mean to you. Tell them that you LOVE them. Tell them that you CARE.

Merry Christmas y'all!

  1. I found myself doing the same exact thing. And my mom and grandma kept saying, "Emily you need to stop wanting". I've really gotten quite ridiculous...

  2. I have that feeling quite often this time of year too. I actually decided that I wasn't going to allow myself to buy anything for... myself. I've been following that rule pretty well so far, but boy is it tough not buying for yourself!

I've been asking people at work who they're shopping for, and I'm actually surprised at the number of people who say they're shopping for themselves so close to Christmas. I think you're not alone in feeling a bit selfish this time of year.

You're definitely right though on the real meaning of Christmas.... making pancakes with your dad on Christmas morning sounds like a fantastic way to start the day! (:

it's okay, we're worth it too. I have NO doubt that you have the right spirit about the holidays, seriously look at all the effort you put into wrapping those gifts! that's not selfish, that's thoughtful!
